Aslepias tuberosa and Alstroemeria Seedlings

My driveway is a U-shape and one end comes out across from my mailbox. To the north is a small patch of ground between an old cedar tree (actually, a juniper, but folks in this area call it a cedar). This is one of the worst patches of ground that I have around here. It is bone dry, nearly year round, and is full of clay and rocks (from when they built the road). When I moved in here, only a few weeds would consistently call this spot home.

So, I have started to experiment with various plants, trying to determine what will actually do well here. One of them is the <a href = "http://www.varinagardens.com/index.php?page=mypla&myplantid=238" target = "_blank">Butterfly Weed</a>, or Asclepia tuberosa. The one that has done really well was a seedling that I started the Spring before we moved in and dropped it here that Fall (2007.)
