Gardening in Varina, Virginia continues with a flourish as the season winds to an end. I must say that this is the absolute best time of the year for gardening. The weather is usually outstanding and the plants love to be planted now.
Anything in a pot will get its best start when put into the ground now. Any dry or hot weather going forward will be short-lived and you usually get a fair amount of rain anyway. This year, we have already had a nice bit of rain in late Summer and early Fall, so new plantings are getting a great start.
Right now, I am getting a bunch of daylilies in the ground from a batch that I purchased from a member of Daves Garden. I am pretty much 'Daylily Full' now and hope to focus purchases on only a few plants each year, as I get my daylily seedling program going.
A big positive is that I have started to remove the Maples along Warwick Park to be replaced by Dogwoods and Sourwood for my bees. I am now thinking that this will be a great place for a swath ...more...
